The Adagio Tour material used to make the Marley Mats also has enough rigidity to produce a good sound for tap and other styles of hard soled dance.

Rosco Marley Mats are made using our professional-grade Adagio Tour, which is the same material used by professional touring dance companies and competitions around the world. Marley Mats are designed to provide a dance surface that rolls out quickly and easily, and they feature a “limited slip” grip that is excellent for ballet, jazz, modern, tap and many other styles of dance.
Unpacking
Save the shipping box your Rosco Marley Mat arrived in for storage. Marley Mats should be used in a space with a smooth, level surface. Installation over foam pads or carpets is not recommended as this can cause your Marley Mat to become lumpy, uneven or possibly tear. Your Marley Mat may have a curl from being rolled up in the box. This curl will relax over time, but you can help speed up the process by rolling the mat in the opposite direction, and then unrolling it again before installation.
Installation
Inspect both sides of your Marley Mat closely. You’ll notice one side is textured and uniform in color, while the other side is smooth with a dappled mix of color gradients. Your mat should be laid out with the textured/uniform side up, and the glossy/gradient side down towards the floor. Position your Marley Mat in place and use the included Rosco Floor Tape to tape around the perimeter of the mat and secure it in place. You’re all set up to dance!
Storage
Save the shipping box your Marley Mat arrived in. It’s a great place to keep your mat when not in use. Sweep your Marley Mat clean of any dust and debris, then roll the mat up, use a small piece of Rosco Dance Floor Tape to keep it from unrolling, and then place it back in its storage box. If you no longer have the box, we recommend rolling the Marley Mat onto a PVC pipe that’s at least 3” in diameter. Avoid storing anything heavy on top of your rolled-up mat as this may damage the mat and make it wavy the next time it is rolled out. These waves can be very hard to remove.
Cleaning
To keep your Marley Mat in good shape, keep it swept with a soft bristled broom to remove dust, dirt and debris. It’s also recommended to clean your Marley Mat periodically with Rosco All Purpose Floor Cleaner and a soft, absorbent sponge to remove shoe compounds, body oils, etc. Abrasive pads and cleansers should be avoided as they may damage the surface of your floor. Cleaners that contain ammonia should also be avoided as they can make the surface slippery.
Scuffing
The first time you use your new floor you may notice shoe marks. Don’t panic! This is 100% expected and a sign that the Marley Mat is doing its job as scuffs are a result of friction between a shoe and the grip of the floor. When the floor is shiny and new, each scuff is very noticeable. After more use the scuffs will start to blend into a “patina” on the floor – just as they do inside dance studios everywhere. Be proud of your scuffs! They are a representation of the hard work you’ve put in rehearsing and practicing at home.
Advice For Tap Dancers
Because Marley Mats are made using our Adagio Tour – it is suitable for tap dancing. We do, however, recommend keeping your tap shoes in good shape. Check to ensure that screws are not protruding from the tap. Loose tap screws can gouge a hole in your Marley Mat and, unfortunately, gouges cannot be repaired.
